Spring 2012 update
2012 brings the excitement of the “big move” into the new west addition which is scheduled for the end of this calendar year.
Work continues steadily on the interior with the Level 2 to be completed first and Level 1 to follow. On Level 2 most of the walls are closed in and painting has begun. Installation of the myriad of wires, pipes, cables and ducts necessary for us to provide care and stay safe and comfortable is nearing completion.
On Level 1 mechanical and electrical services continue to be roughed in and boarding of the walls is underway. Installation of the lead shielding for the new MRI Suite is complete.
Coordination is ongoing between the Contractor and several companies supplying new equipment for the OR and the Diagnostic Imaging Departments.
Installation of steel beams for the Main Elevator Tower is nearly complete to be followed by concrete pours and glass panel installation. Now that the steel structure is in place the Contractor will have to break through the exterior wall (west face) to create a new elevator lobby on each floor. The space on each floor has already been handed over to the Contractor but occupants will face some noise and vibration in the main building as this work progresses. The reward will be brand new elevators that will easily handle stretchers for ease of patient transport.
The Project Team is currently working on orders for items both big and small to be installed just prior to occupancy. Over the next few months finish materials and equipment will begin to arrive on site. The early spring has allowed for the Contractor to continue with the civil work (parking lots, curbs, lights etc.) on both the North and South sides of the site.
Window replacement has continued through the tower, with the solariums being visible on both north and south ends. Steel panels are also being installed in preparation for the final stucco finish that will cover the existing tower.
